Daniel Arnau : born in Estivella , near Valencia ,Spain in 1887 . Became one of the leading Hawaiian guitarists on the Paris scene in the early 1930s recording for La Voix de Son Maitre , Disque Henry ( Django also recorded for them!) and Fotosonor .These were released all over Europe including France, Spain, Italy, Czechoslovakia ...even as far afield as Turkey and Japan .He was one of only a few of the Paris-based steel players to include some authentic Hawaiian material in his repertoire and one of only a handful of European players to use a National Tricone . Sadly Arnau's latter years were spent in poverty and he died in 1955 .In his home town of Estivella there is today a music school named after him , and a local historian Lluis Mesa has undertaken impressive research into his life ...including a quite amazing magazine article and interview from 1932 .
The picture shows him holding a roundneck Tricone with nut extender (so it could be played lapstyle)
